Enrolling in Medicare

Resources are available to help you enroll in Medicare.

Enrolling in Medicare can be a confusing process, but numerous resources are available to provide information as you make decisions. Help is just a phone call or a few mouse clicks away!

Medicare & You: This comprehensive booklet from Medicare provides all the details about plans and coverage. It is available as a PDF on Medicare’s website; however, it’s a 132-page document, so you might want it in a different format. Medicare & You also is available in eBook, audio, braille and paper versions. Call 1-800-MEDICARE if you want the paper booklet. This is the online resource directly from Medicare for everything about Medicare.

1-800-MEDICARE: Use this toll-free number to speak to someone at Medicare directly.

SHIPs: Every U.S. state has a free State Health Insurance Assistance Program to help people with Medicare questions. SHIP counselors are an objective resource that will clarify the options available to you so you can make informed decisions. Visit or call 1-877-839-2675 to find the SHIP that serves your state.

MyMedicareMatters: This website from the National Council on Aging offers comprehensive information about Medicare options and enrollment.

The Medicare Question and Answer Tool: Provided by AARP, you can find answers to common Medicare questions by entering a question, word or phrase and clicking submit.

The Medicare Rights Center: This nonprofit organization is dedicated to serving consumers and ensuring older adults have access to affordable health care. Their website has a variety of information and fact sheets. They also have a well-organized, interactive tool that will walk you through all information you need to learn more about Medicare.

Medicare may seem complicated, but you don’t have to go through the process alone. Take advantage of these resources so you’ll get the information you need to make the best decisions for you.
